In 2006, Jordan Brand released its first ever two-pair bundle of Air Jordans titled the Defining Moments Package. The Air Jordan VI and XI marked Michael Jordan’s first and fourth championships, each representing the first of two three-peats. Another athlete who may have a resume as extensive as Jordan’s is Derek Jeter, shortstop and captain of the New York Yankees. It’s tough to pinpoint just one defining moment but Jordan Brand designed a Defining Moments PE of the Jordan Jeter Throwback – Jeter’s 9th sig shoe – that Jeter plans to wear for nine games against notable opponents throughout the rest of the regular season. The colorway is similar to the Air Jordan VI/XI DMP; featuring black and a regal gold and a heel graphic noting Jeter’s famous Yankee moments, this Defining Moments PE lives up to the divine standard that Michael Jordan and his brand sets on its athletes. Sneaker-shaped birthday cakes have become increasingly common, but here are a few new delicacies that rank among the very best.  Both were baked in honor of Carmelo Anthony’s 26th birthday, and while they both feature Melo’s Jordan Brand logo, they were quite different.  That’s cos one cake was pretty much all logo, or at least stood as the support for a huge sculpted Melo insignia, whereas the others were a series of Air Jordan Future Sole Melo M6s, with two large ones for dad and two smaller ones for son Kiyan, from whom the shoe cakes were apparently a gift.  The young Anthony did his thing on this one, and you can see shots of all the goodness after the jump. 

This is a big year for the Jordan IX.  The installment for the Jordan Silver Anniversary dropped back in March, while the highly anticipated Powder University Blues just hit stores this past Memorial Weekend.  Also to come in the future are the Bin 23’s, Black/Citrus, and also the Charcoals later in the year.  In the midst of all these releases, JB will also be retroing the White/Black-Varsity Red; a big surprise as it was just seen as part of the Collezione 14/9 during the Countdown Packs in 2008.  Nonetheless, its a classic that we’re sure quite a number of fans didn’t buy during the CDP’s because of distaste for having to buy the XIV with it.  On the other hand, it’s also very likely of the number of readers that are upset to find out about this release because they did in fact buy the CDP just to obtain the White/Black/Red 9’s.

Michael Jordan’s love of speed is well documented, and his Jordan Motorsports team was recently spotlighted in a piece for ESPN’s E:60.  Aside from Carmine red as featured on one of the OG Air Jordan VIs, that’s likely the best explanation for why this shoe is dubbed the Air Jordan Carmichael.  Far from your average driving shoe, the Carmichael is a high performance basketball sneaker with Zoom Air cushioning exposed on the heel. 

The Michael Jordan statue outside Chicago’s United Center saw a curious choice in footwear earlier this week.  No, we’re not referring to the fact that MJ never wore the Air Jordan IXs sculpted onto his likeness in that building, but rather the hockey-happy makeover His Bronze Airness received.  To celebrate the Blackhawks visit to this year’s Stanley Cup Finals, the statue has been outfitted with a Jonathan Toews jersey, so that even Mike is showing his ‘Hawks pride. A Blackhawks jersey by Reebok is no surprise, considering RBK is the official NHL outfitter, but metal MJ’s Reebok skates were quickly replaced with a Nike/Bauer blade.  Mike himself has even gone so far as to block out the Reebok insignias when he’s wearing a Blackhawks jersey, but the one on the statue remains untouched.  Probably the least likely hybrid we’ve ever seen a ’sample’ of, you can check out pics and a video of the Blackhawk’d statue after the jump.  via Yahoo
